Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉
I hope you all had an amazing time welcoming in 2025. I spent my New Year's Eve at the Wyong Golf Club. The family-friendly fireworks were amazing, and my kids had an absolute blast playing with their friends.
As we step into this new year, I wanted to share a bit about my own journey and the goals I've set for myself. I believe in focusing on three big goals each year to avoid decision fatigue and stay on track. Here are my three goals for 2025:
1. **Salon Goal**: Last year we opened a second salon, and it was hectic! This year I am focused on elevating our younger team and building our salon business.
2. **Fitness Goal**: With the busyness of salon life and family, it's easy to neglect our own well-being. This year, I'm committed to making time for fitness and eating healthy.
3. **Celebrations Goal**: My husband is turning the big 4-0 this year! 🎂 I’m planning to make it a memorable milestone and celebrate all the special moments with him. Sometimes I get so goal focused on the future I forget about celebrating in the now.
If you’re like me and love to set goals, you can grab the Canva template I used here. I tweaked it from one of their free templates and found it super helpful.
After setting my goals, I kicked off the year with some serious decluttering. Last year was big and busy, and I wanted to clear the energy and start fresh. I tackled one space at a time—my wardrobe, the linen press, the bathroom, the pantry, the kids' rooms, and my desk. Even the kitchen drawers got a makeover! It felt so good to clear the clutter and feel organized.
I also enlisted the help of the Queen of Gardening, my mum, to get our garden back under control. We weeded, trimmed, and then enjoyed a well-deserved glass of Moscato with dip and crackers when the work was done - the best part.
In the salon and family life hustle, plus educating for NAK and trying to stay healthy, taking the time at the start of the year to declutter helps keep overwhelm at bay.
As well as decluttering, I'm in the process of setting up my diary for the year. My diary-calendar situation is a bit crazy, but it works! I use Family Wall for anything shared between my hubby and me. It allows us to color-code the kids' activities, share shopping lists, and coordinate our schedules. In the kitchen, I have a 5-week whiteboard to keep track of what's on, and the kids love seeing it. I also find I glance at it more so I am more aware of what is upcoming.
For my own projects and tasks, I have a separate digital diary. I was using Google Calendar but am currently trialing Motion. I also still love a paper diary for jotting down notes during NAK educations.
I know it sounds like a lot, but it helps me stay on top of everything with 10 team members to coordinate, two salon locations, and occasional educational sessions at other salons.
I think diary set up is actually really important i think we have all seen the rock and glass jar analogy click here if you haven't but i think it is true for family life and salon life.
I'd love to know—do you prefer paper or digital diaries? Let me know on your next appointment.
Here's to an amazing 2025 filled with reaching our goals and having fun along the way!
